Meditation - Find peace in stillness

Meditation is a practice of gently focusing your attention and bringing your awareness to the present moment. You might focus on your breath, repeat a meaningful word or prayer, or follow a guided visualization. You don’t need to empty your mind—simply notice when it wanders and gently return.

The Benefits of Meditation

Meditation offers space to pause and reconnect with yourself. With regular practice, it may support:

  1. Less stress: Create moments of calm and relaxation.

  2. Improved focus: Practice bringing your attention back to what’s happening now.

  3. Emotional balance: Notice your feelings and create space to respond with greater intention.

  4. Better rest: A quiet practice before bed may help you unwind.

  5. Greater self-awareness: Become more familiar with your thoughts, feelings, and needs.

How to Get Started

  1. Find a quiet place: Choose somewhere you feel comfortable and supported.

  2. Get comfortable: Sit in a chair with your feet on the floor, sit on a cushion, or lie down.

  3. Notice your breath: Let it flow naturally without forcing it. Close your eyes if comfortable, or keep a soft gaze.

  4. Gently return: Your mind will wander—that’s normal. When you notice, bring your attention back without judgment. If focusing on your breath feels uncomfortable, try noticing the sounds around you or the support beneath your feet.

  5. Start small: Begin with a minute or two and build toward five minutes or longer as it feels right.

Some days, stillness comes easily. Other days, your mind feels busy. Both belong in the practice. Give yourself permission to begin exactly where you are.
